SSI Specialties – Taste the Fun and Adventure

Malta is a perfect place to broaden your skills. Access to wrecks, water clarity usually reaching 30 metres, attractive depths and caves make Malta an unbeatable place to complete dive specializations. During the course, you will learn how to dive in a dry suit, at night, on the wrecks, using nitrox blends or how to protect underwater nature. You can take part in any specializations that you think are interesting.

SSI Wreck Diver - Price 130€

This program provides the skills and concepts required to safely scuba dive around wrecks and artificial reefs.

Many of the ocean’s best dive sites have artificial reefs, or wrecks that have sunk through the ages. This program gives you the skills and knowledge required to safely scuba dive above and around these underwater treasures. You will earn the SSI Wreck Diving certification after completing this program.

Initial requirements:

If you’re at least 10 years old and have earned a Open Water certification or higher, you can enroll in the Wreck Diver Specialty course.

What will you learn?

There are many different types of wrecks, some of which are protected by laws that guard their historical and cultural significance. Your training starts by reviewing guidelines for researching and respecting wrecks. During four dives you’ll learn:

  • Safety considerations for navigating and exploring wrecks..
  • Using penetration lines and reels to guide exploration.
  • Techniques to avoid kicking up silt or disturbing the wreck and its inhabitants.

How long does the course last?

Course consists of 2 open water dives. Duration of the course: 1 days.

SSI Deep Diver - Price 195€

This program provides the skills and concepts required to safely and comfortably dive beyond 18 meters.

Many exciting dive sites are located in deeper water. Without proper training, this kind of diving puts you at risk. The SSI Deep Diving Specialty will give you the ability to safely and comfortably plan and conduct dives beyond 18 meters, and is a prerequisite for some advanced training. You will earn the SSI Deep Diving Specialty certification. after completing this program

Initial requirements:

If you’ve earned the Open Water Diver rating or higher, and you’re at least 15 years old, you can enroll in the Deep Diver course.

What will you learn?

Your training starts by reviewing reasons for deep diving and how important it is to know your personal limits. During four deep dives with your instructor, you’ll go over:

  • Specialized deep diving equipment.
  • Deep dive planning, buddy contact procedures and buoyancy control.
  • Managing your gas supply, dealing with gas narcosis and safety considerations.

Course consists of 3 open water dives. Duration of the course: 2 days.

SSI Enriched Air Diver - Price 125€

This program teaches the skills and concepts required to safely dive using enriched air mixtures of 32% or 40% oxygen.

The SSI Enriched Air Nitrox program will teach you how to safely plan and dive with enriched air mixtures of up to 40% oxygen. Diving with enriched air can increase your no-decompression limits, increase your safety, and reduce the required length of your surface intervals when compared to air. You will earn the SSI Enriched Air Nitrox 32% or 40% certification after completing this program.

Initial requirements:

If you’re a Open Water Diver who is at least 10 years old, you can enroll in the Enriched Air Diver Specialty course. Note that in some regions the minimum age than 10.

What will you learn?

You’ll learn why diving with air that has higher oxygen and lower nitrogen content gives youis older  more bottom time, along with enriched air equipment considerations. During a practical session, and two optional (or required) scuba dives, you’ll:

  • Discuss managing oxygen exposure.
  • Practice analyzing oxygen content in your scuba tank.
  • Set your dive computer for diving with enriched air nitrox.

How long does the course last?

SSI Underwater Navigator - Price 130€

This program provides the skills and concepts required to safely and comfortably navigate underwater during a dive.

You will learn how to use a compass and natural navigation techniques, estimate distance, basic navigation patterns and how to leave and return to a designated point. You will earn the SSI Navigation Specialty certification after completing this program.

Initial requirements:

If you’re a Open Water Diver who is at least 10 years old, you can enroll in the SSI Underwater Navigator Specialty course.

What will you learn?

You’ll learn the tools of the trade, including navigation using natural clues and by following compass headings. During two scuba dives, you’ll practice:

  • Methods to estimate distance underwater.
  • Compass navigation while making at least five turns.
  • Marking or relocating a submerged object or position from the surface.

How long does the course last?

Course consists of 2 open water dives. Duration of the course: 1 days.

SSI Dry Suit Diver - Price 170€

This program provides the skills and concepts required to safely and comfortably dive while using a dry suit.

You will learn the special requirements for dry suit diving, how to use your new equipment, the benefits of a dry suit, and how to deal with emergency situations that are unique to dry suit diving. You will earn the SSI Dry Suit Diving Specialty certification after completing this program.

Initial requirements:

If you’re at least 10 years old and certified as Open Water Diver or higher, you can enroll in the Dry Suit Diver course.

What will you learn?

The first thing you’ll discover is which dry suit style and accompanying undergarments are right for you and the diving you’ll do. Then you’ll learn how to take care of your dry suit. During two dives, in addition to a confined water dive, you’ll practice:

  • Putting on and taking off your dry suit with minimal assistance.
  • Mastering buoyancy control using your dry suit.
  • Dive safety procedures when using a dry suit.

How long does the course last?

Course consists of theory sessions, pool sessions and two open water dives. To certification, you need 1 day.

This program provides the skills and concepts required to safely and comfortably dive at night or in limited visibility conditions. Some of the ocean’s most amazing creatures only come out at night, so your dive doesn’t have to end when the sun goes down. You will learn how to enter and exit the water, use specialized equipment, and how to communicate and dive with a buddy at night or in limited visibility. You will earn the SSI Night Diving and Limited Visibility Specialty certification after completing this program.

Initial requirements:

Open Water Divers or higher, who are at least 10 years old, can enroll in the Night Diver specialty course.

What will you learn?

Scuba diving at night teaches you to focus on what you can see in your light’s beam, on controlling your buoyancy by feel, on staying with your buddy and on paying attention to details you may overlook during the day. During two night dives, you’ll practice:

  • Light handling and communication techniques.
  • Entering, exiting and navigating in the dark.
  • Identifying how plants and animals differ or change behavior at night.

This program teaches you the skills and concepts required to improve your diving position, increase your buoyancy control, and minimize your breathing gas consumption rate.

Do you want to increase your buoyancy control, minimize your breathing gas consumption, or move effortlessly above the ocean floor? The SSI Perfect Buoyancy program teaches you the skills and techniques needed to maximize your dive experience, increase your comfort in the water, and get the most from your equipment. You will earn the SSI Perfect Buoyancy Specialty certification.

Initial requirements:

Open Water Divers or higher, who are at least 10 years old, are eligible to take the Peak Performance Buoyancy course.

What will you learn?

During two scuba dives, you’ll learn how to:

  • Determine the exact weight you need, so you’re not too light or too heavy.
  • Trim your weight system and scuba gear so you’re perfectly balanced in the water.
  • Streamline to save energy, use air more efficiently and move more smoothly through the water.
  • Hover effortlessly in any position – vertical or horizontal.

SSI Scooter DPV - Price 200€

This program provides the skills and concepts required to safely plan and conduct dives using the Seabob and other underwater scooters or diver propulsion vehicles (DPVs).

You will learn the special precautions for using DPVs, how to maintain buddy contact and control your equipment, and how to safely enjoy the new experiences that a DPV dive provides. You will earn the SSI Seabob Diving Specialty certification after completing this program.

Initial requirements:

Open Water Divers or higher, who are at least 12 years old, are eligible to take the Scooter DPV course.

How long does the course last?

Course consists of 2 open water dives.  Duration of the course: 1 day.

SSI React Right - Price 200€

This program teaches the skills and concepts required to provide emergency first responder assistance in emergency situations, and fulfills the first aid/CPR requirements for SSI training programs.

React Right is SSI’s emergency training program, consisting of the following basic components: Primary Assessment, First Aid & CPR Skills, Primary Stabilization Techniques, and includes two optional components: Oxygen Administration in Diving Emergencies and Automated External Defibrilation Basics. Students who complete this program earn the SSI React Right specialty certification.

What will you learn?

  • Course teaches you the steps and techniques for handling life-threatening emergencies. You’ll practice eight skills for aiding patients who aren’t breathing, have no heartbeat, may have a spinal injury, may be in shock or who may have serious bleeding. You’ll learn to how to perform CPR and continue to monitor the patient, so that you provide every possible chance of survival while waiting for emergency medical services to arrive.
  • Because many medical conditions are not life-threatening and emergency medical services are sometimes delayed or unavailable, this course teaches you how to provide first aid that eases pain and reduces the risk of further harm. You’ll learn to assess a variety of injuries and illnesses and practice bandaging and splinting.
  • This course focuses on CPR training and teaching participants how to use an AED (automated external defibrillator). When workplace or governmental requirements specify this training, the CPR & AED course meets the need. This course is often integrated into First Aid at Work programs.
  • It’s a good idea to refresh your CPR and first aid skills every 24 months, and that’s what the refresher course is designed to do. Focusing on key skills, the course allows you to stay up-to-date and ready to lend aid when needed.
