um el faroud
The biggest diving attraction in Malta
Um El Faroud was a Libyan owned motor tanker. The vessel was 115 meters long and weighed 10 000 tons. In 1995, during maintenance work on Malta, she was damaged as a result of gas explosion. In 1998, she was scuttled off the coast of Malta as an artificial reef. Currently, it’s one of Malta’s diving attractions.
The wreck is perfectly preserved. Due to her size, we encourage you to indulge in more than one dive in it. However, it is not the easiest dive site – there are strong currents around the wreck, and both depth and distance to the shore are considerable. As such, it is unadvisable dive site for inexperienced divers.
